MOT

An MOT test is the annual examination of a car’s safety, emissions and roadworthiness, required in the UK for any car that is three or more years old. MOT checks can only be carried out at garages with engineers that have been officially certified by the DVSA. Vehicles that do not have a valid, up-to-date MOT certificate are not legally allowed to drive on UK roads and may have their insurance invalidated.

There are various different classes of MOT and at MCP we can undertake the following tests.

Class 4 MOT for cars and light vans
Class 5 MOT for mini buses
Class 7 MOT for larger vans and early Land Rovers
In fact at MCP we can test for all classes of MOT. Just ring us and let us know what you want to have tested.

Ring us as soon as possible to make the appointment to have your vehicle inspected. However, you are allowed by law to take your vehicle to have the defects (if you know what they are) or you can drive it to a pre-arranged MOT appointment.

What are the most common MOT failures?2018-07-16T12:22:26+01:00

The most common MOT failures are tyre tread (they must have uniform tread of 3mm) including the spare wheel, closely followed by lights – bulbs not working. We supply both tyres and bulbs and these can usually be fitted on the same day as your MOT.

What happens if my vehicle doesn’t pass the MOT test?2018-07-16T12:21:47+01:00

We will contact you directly and tell you why it failed. If there is an easy fix you can authorise us to undertake the repair the same day and we can re-test the vehicle hopefully the same day and you can be on your way. If it is something more complex then we can quote you for the work required and you can then decide if you would like us to undertake the repair. You are of course able to take your vehicle away and make your decision on the repair in your own time.
